The next Ardbeg Committee Edition is in sight: Ardbeg Blaaack will be released on March 3, 2020. The black sheep on the label and the whisky’s name that reminds us of the sound sheep use to make reveal that this release is indeed dedicated to those animals that can be found in large numbers in Scotland and especially on the island of Islay.
The Ardbeg Blaaack Single Malt Whisky was matured in Pinot Noir casks from New Zealand. The Ardbeg Blaaack Committee Release was bottled at 50.7% vol.
Tasting notes for the Ardbeg Blaaack
On the nose: British fruit pudding, cedar wood and the scent of a cigar box. Oak tannins with truffles follow and reveal subtle notes of smoked jam tarts. With a dash of water, intense aromas of bitter cherries with spices appear and turn into a wonderful fragrant bouquet of violets.
On the palate: A velvety mouthfeel drives the palate into a complex symphony of contrasting aromas. Anise, soot and summer fruits - such as cherries, strawberries, apricots and pears - pave the way to notes of shortbread biscuits, dark chocolate, coffee and almonds.
Finish: A long-lasting, smoky-sooty finish
20th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee
The Ardbeg Committee has been existing since January 1, 2000, and now has more than 100,000 members. The free membership enables fans of the heavily peated whisky to purchase the limited Ardbeg Committee releases that appear annually. The Ardbeg Blaaack is therefore a kind of a jubilee bottling to mark the 20th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee.
